Whilst it is still possible to use a spreadsheet for your accounts, my advice would be to invest in some suitable accounting software ready for when HMRC make it compulsory. Making Tax Digital is coming in over the next couple of years, and you won’t be able to submit your tax returns without some sort of MTD-compliant software. It’s not just a compliance exercise; using software will make your life as a business owner easier as well.
